What is a Site Plan?
A Site Plan is a large, top-down reference image — often a map, aerial layout, or schematic — used to show how things are arranged across an outdoor area. In Swyvl, site plans help you place and organize data visually, especially for event sites, infrastructure layouts, or field operations.
When to Use a Site Plan
Use a Site Plan when you want to:
Overlay a detailed map of a site or event layout
Align 360 photos, still photos, and other data to a specific area
Give your team or clients a clearer sense of location and scale
🧠 Tip: Site Plans are best for large-scale, outdoor contexts — for indoor or multi-level building layouts, use a Floor Plan instead.
How Site Plans Work in Swyvl
Uploaded as PNG or JPEG files
Automatically tiled for faster loading and smoother mobile performance
Reusable across multiple Projects — if you reposition it once, it updates everywhere
🔄 Step-by-Step: How to Add a Site Plan
1. Open Your Project in the Builder
Click Site Plan from the Toolbar.
2. Upload Your Plan
Upload a PNG or JPEG of your site plan
(If it’s a PDF, convert it first using a screenshot or online converter)
3. Configure the Plan
Give it a clear name (e.g. “Festival Layout” or “Transmission Line Overview”)
Site Plans don’t have height or draping options — they sit flat by default and apply globally
4. Place Your Site Plan on the Map
Use the red circles and handles to align your image to the map
You can toggle between street and satellite basemaps in the top-right corner
Click Confirm once you're happy with the placement
📝 Note: The same plan can be used in multiple Projects — if you update its position, it will update everywhere it’s used.
🧰 Managing Site Plans
In the Project Data Sidebar
Site Plans are stored in their own folder
Drag data items into a Site Plan folder to lock them to that plan — this preserves their placement and visibility settings
Adjusting Plan Settings
Click the settings icon next to the plan in the Sidebar to:
Rename it
Reposition or rotate it
Clamp it to the terrain (if needed)
Clamp data items to the plan for consistent spatial alignment
🛠 Troubleshooting Site Plans
Plan Looks Misaligned
Check satellite imagery and reposition using the placement tools.
Data Appears Below the Map
Try increasing the height of your data item or switching to a different basemap — like OpenStreetMap — if terrain is affecting display.
