How to Use Point, Line, Polygon and Embed

Learn how to add basic shapes and location markers to your Swyvl map using the Draw Tools.

Updated this week

🧭 What are Draw Tools?

The Draw Tools let you add simple shapes and markers to your map that are helpful for highlighting locations, outlining areas, or linking to external content. You’ll find them in the Builder toolbar at the top of the screen.

You can choose from four types:

  • Point – Drop a marker on the map

  • Line – Draw a straight or curved path

  • Polygon – Outline an area using connected lines

  • Embed – Add a point that links to external content (e.g. a web page, PDF, or video)

πŸ“ Adding a Point

  1. Open your project in the Builder.

  2. Click the Point tool from the top toolbar.

  3. Click anywhere on the map to drop a point.

  4. The point will be added to the map and listed in the Project Data panel on the left.

  5. Click the settings icon next to the item name to open the Properties Panel and customise it.

βž– Drawing a Line

  1. Select the Line tool from the top toolbar.

  2. Click to place each point along the path.

  3. To finish drawing:

    • Double-click on the final point
      or

    • Click Save Line in the top-right of the toolbar

  4. The line will appear and can be edited from the Properties Panel.

πŸ”Ί Drawing a Polygon

  1. Click the Polygon tool in the top toolbar.

  2. Click to place each corner of the shape.

  3. To complete the shape:

    • Click back on the starting point
      or

    • Click Save Polygon in the top-right of the toolbar

  4. The filled polygon will appear on the map and can be styled or labelled.

πŸ”— Adding an Embed Point

  1. Click the Embed tool.

  2. Drop the embed point on the map like a normal point.

  3. In the Project Data panel, click the settings icon to open the Properties Panel.

  4. In the Details tab, you can:

    • Enter a Name for the Embed Point

    • Paste the URL to the external content

  5. Users will be able to click this point in the Viewer to open the link in a new tab.

πŸ“ Embed supports any publicly accessible URL. For private content, make sure sharing permissions are set appropriately.
